Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, who is on a visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to attend the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), participated in the opening and plenary sessions of the Bank’s Board of Governors. As part of the visit, the Minister also held a meeting with the Global Head of Industry at “Oliver Wyman Group.”
Within the framework of the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov participated in the opening session of the Bank’s Board of Governors. The session featured discussions on the efficient use of economic resources in the face of global challenges, the development of climate-resilient infrastructure, digital transformation, investment in modern business solutions, industrial policy, and leading practices and potential opportunities related to social security.
As part of the EBRD Annual Meeting, the Plenary Session of the Bank’s Board of Governors was held. Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov delivered a speech during the event, highlighting the EBRD’s continued support for its partner countries. It was noted that the past year was marked by major investments and projects for the Bank, reflecting its growing influence in the international financial sphere. The minister emphasized the importance of cooperation in key areas such as the development of public-private partnerships and the expansion of support for small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, the EBRD’s investments that contribute to accelerating global economic growth and the green transition were described as particularly significant.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan remains committed to addressing global challenges and advancing the green transition. By hosting COP29, the country demonstrated global leadership and played a key role in securing a landmark agreement to triple climate finance for developing countries. This agreement envisions allocating $300 billion annually for climate finance to these countries by 2035.
The event highlighted Azerbaijan's strategic role, initiatives, and cooperation opportunities in the international energy and trade platforms.
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Ted Moynihan, Global Head of Industries at Oliver Wyman Group. During the meeting, information was provided on the efforts undertaken in Azerbaijan to diversify the economy and develop the non-oil sector.
The parties exchanged views on opportunities for cooperation in attracting investments, increasing added value, and boosting exports in the context of current challenges in the business environment.
