The first electric bus produced by “Azerbaijan Energy Automotive Factory” LLC (AEAF) in the Sumgayit Industrial Park, in partnership with “BYD” has been presented to “BakuBus” LLC.
In line with the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed in 2023 “On the Promotion of the Use of Electric Vehicles”, the production and use of environmentally friendly transport vehicles in the country is being expanded.
The production process has already started at AEAF, located in the Sumgayit Industrial Park, and the first buses have been assembled using the SKD method.
At the ceremony dedicated to the delivery of the first fully electric bus to “BakuBus” LLC, Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei, BYD’s CEO Tian Chunlong, Director of “BakuBus” LLC Shahin Hasanov, and other officials participated.
In their speeches, it was emphasized that this project marks a new stage in the transport sector, strengthening industrial potential, technology transfer, and human capital. It was noted that this is an important part of Azerbaijan’s green energy and green transport policy and a successful example of Azerbaijan–China cooperation.
It was highlighted that the first 12-meter bus produced has a capacity of 82 passengers and can travel 350 km on a single charge. In the future, initiatives will be implemented for the production of models with different capacities, as well as electric trucks, utility vehicles, and passenger cars.
These initiatives strengthen Azerbaijan’s position in the region in the field of environmentally friendly and sustainable transport. It should be noted that AEAF was established through the joint initiative of the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund under the Ministry of Economy, SARDA Group, and BYD.
