Second trilateral meeting regarding export of green energy from Central Asia to Europe through Azerbaijan held in Uzbekistan

The second meeting of the heads of the relevant Ministries of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan regarding the export of green energy to Europe through the territory of Azerbaijan has been held in Uzbekistan. The Memorandum of Understanding on Merging the Energy Systems has been signed. 

 

Within the framework of the visit to Uzbekistan, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov held the trilateral meeting with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamahmudov and Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev on the export of green energy to Europe through Azerbaijan’s territory. Representatives of international companies and financial institutions specializing in the field of renewable energy participated in the meeting.  
It was highlighted at the event that the strong political will of the heads of states has created the robust foundation for intensifying the economic cooperation, and that the multilateral relations are developing. It was noted that our countries have abundant renewable energy sources, and the implemented projects boost the production and export of electricity.  
The prospects for exporting electricity from Central Asia to Europe through the territory of Azerbaijan were discussed at the meeting. Views were exchanged over the implementation of the issues arising from the Joint Communique signed by the heads of the relevant Ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in Baku in late 2023, as well as over strengthening the joint activities on green energy projects. It was stressed that the Joint Working Group operates efficiently in the directions of energy exchange, expanding the cooperation in the field of establishing relevant infrastructure.  
It was underlined that the creation of the Caspian Sea – Black Sea – Europe energy corridor will strengthen the energy security of the participating countries, as well as foster the ties between their energy systems and economies. 
As part of the meeting, the presentation was made regarding the joint implementation of the project on merging the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan (“Green corridor”).
Within the framework of the event, the Memorandum of Understanding on Merging the Energy Systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was signed. The implementation of this document will catalyze our collective goals, particularly focusing on the production and export of green energy to Europe through Azerbaijan's territory, the integration of energy systems, and the effective utilization of renewable resources.
In accordance with the Memorandum, the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been entrusted with the functions of the Secretariat concerning the project on merging the energy systems of the three countries.
