Potential areas of cooperation discussed with ADB

The potential financing opportunities for combating climate change, the action of ADB within the framework of COP29 and the draft plan in the field of global climate policy and possible partnership directions were discussed in a meeting with an official of the Asian Development Bank at the Ministry of Economy.

Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Eugene Zhukov, Director General of the Central and West Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized that effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and ADB is being implemented. This year, the 25th anniversary of our country's partnership with ADB was noted, and the importance of further deepening of this beneficial cooperation was stated. The bank's close participation in the environment, digital development, public-private sector partnership, energy, increasing the transit-logistics potential of our country and financing various infrastructure projects was highly appreciated.

Information was provided at the meeting on the measures taken to increase the efficiency of state-owned enterprises, to attract private investments to those enterprises, and the possibilities of cooperation in this direction were brought into consideration.

Eugene Zhukov mentioned that ADB attaches great importance to relations with Azerbaijan. It was pointed out that the steps taken to diversify the economy and promote inclusive growth in Azerbaijan are commendable. The official of the institution congratulated Azerbaijan on being chosen as the host of COP29 and touched on the importance of the "green development" agenda of our country. It was stated that ADB is ready to provide technical support in relation to COP29, especially in the field of development of carbon markets.   

The parties exchanged views on the current state of cooperation and issues of mutual interest. Potential funding opportunities for combating climate change, action plan prepared by ADB within the framework of COP29 and global climate policy, and possible directions of cooperation were discussed.
